Hamburg, the Baltic coast and Fehmarn in an electric camper: 4 days, 400 km

Four days, three nights, about 400 km: from Hamburg to the Lübeck Bay, across the bridge to Fehmarn, along the Kiel Fjord to Eckernförde and back. No stage is longer than 130 km, so even in winter an electric camper gets through each day without a charging stop; the fast chargers along the way are a backup. 88 km · 1 h 02 driving · Distance: OpenStreetMap (OSRM)

Out of the city on the A1 towards Lübeck. The Supercharger at Stockelsdorf is about two thirds of the way and a good place for a coffee, but a full battery gets you to the Baltic coast without stopping. The pitch in Sierksdorf lies between the Hansa-Park and the beach.

Good to know

  • The ELBTOR rental station is open Mon–Fri 7 am–6 pm and Sat 9 am–1 pm, closed on Sundays; kilometres are unlimited. Ask for a charging cable for 16 A sockets when booking. Source: elbtor.de
  • In strong winds the Fehmarn Sound Bridge is usually closed to empty lorries and motorhomes. Whether a camper van with a pop-up roof counts is not stated, so check the traffic news before crossing in a storm. Source: stau.info
  • The pitches in Eckernförde and Pelzerhaken take no reservations, which is why each stage lists an alternative. Source: stellplatzamnoor.de

How we calculate

Realistic range as in the range planner at country-road speed (about 100 km/h). Day 1 starts with a full battery. Overnight on a pitch with a 16 A socket the van gets about 40 kWh back (3.7 kW × 12 h × 90 %); if a stage would leave less than 10 %, we plan a fast-charging stop up to 80 %. Distances come from OpenStreetMap routing and may differ from your navigation.
